CAMEL MARKETING IN NORTH-EASTERN PART OF NIGERIA

The survey was conducted at Nguru and Garin Alkali Livestock Markets of Yobe State to identify the Socio- Economic background of Camel traders and Camel Marketing activities. Fifty (50) questionnaires were administered each, in the two markets. The data obtained was analysed using frequency and percentage. Results showed that most (70.0%) of the marketers were married, all (100.0%) the respondents were male, Most (71.0%) of the respondents were farmers, majority (71.0%) of the camels brought for sale were male, most (61.0%) of the camels were sold because of household demand, and most of the respondents (68%) did not enjoy any government support. Itwas concluded that elderly men dominated camel trading and in order to enhanced productivity and profitability, the traders should be appropriately educated.
