Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

NIGERIAN JOURNAL OF ANIMAL PRODUCTION

GUIDE TO CONTRIBUTORS/AUTHORS

  1. All manuscripts submitted for publication in the Nigerian Journal of Animal Production must be true summaries of original experimental work which have not been published, accepted or submitted for publication, in any other Journal. They must be as concise as possible and must be topics in the realm of Animal Production such as Health, Breeding, Feeding and Nutrition, Housing, Management, Animal Products, Extension, Biotechnology, Pasture and rangeland management, Forage production and preservation, Animal ethics and welfare, and Physiology of all classes of farm animals- cattle, goats, sheep, poultry, rabbits, donkey, camel, horses and wildlife, and special cases; fish, cats, dogs and laboratory animals.
  2. Manuscripts should be processed in Microsoft word using Times New Roman, double-spaced and line numbered. Manuscripts should have the name(s) of author(s) with the surname preceding the initials e.g. Odoh, A. O., Ajayi, F. P., Mohammed, O. F. and Okoro, G. H. This should be followed by address (es) of the author (s) which should be distinguished with $,*,#,1,2 etc.; the corresponding Email; and or without phone number and then continue with abstract, introduction etc.
  3. The major sub-headings to use when preparing manuscripts after item number 2 above are: Abstract, Introduction, Materials and methods, Results and discussion, Acknowledgment (if any) and References (all in lower case except the first letter).
  4. When preparing tables, the letters in the title should be lower case (except the first letter) and all letters must appear bold in the table. Avoid horizontal and vertical lines within the tables. Tables should be prepared using insert Table option to prevent items from getting scattered while formatting the manuscript. Note that a table must have just three horizontal lines (two at the top of the table and the third at the bottom) while all tables must be inserted where they are mentioned in the body of the manuscript.
  5. Illustration in forms of graphs or photographs should be as few as possible, must be very sharp and clearly defined. Legends should not be on the photographic illustrations but should be typed on a separate page accompanying the figures. Graphs should be prepared in clear reproducible camera- ready forms of printing.
  6. When citing references, all authors' names must be in bold lower case letters except the first letter of each name, which should be in Upper case and the year of publication also bold. The surnames must be followed by initials in all cases; year of publication, title, the journal containing it, or medium of publication, journal volume and the first and last page in that order. It should be noted that the journal name must be italicized.
  7. All original manuscripts submitted for publications will be reviewed by two or more reviewers before accepting or rejecting them. Conference papers can be resubmitted for publication after the conference, in which case must comply with the style and format specified for the Journal and will be peer- reviewed.
  8. Submit keywords and a “running title” just below the keywords (not more than 6 words each) along with your manuscript.
  9. Manuscripts submitted for publication must be accompanied by handling charge of two thousand naira (N2,000) per paper (local), fifty dollars (overseas). The Journal charges N38,000 per manuscript accepted and published. However extra cost will be incurred if colour pages are included in manuscripts.
