Abstract

This study was conducted to assess the effect of graded levels of toasted Jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus) seed meal on apparent and nutrient digestibility of West African Dwarf (WAD)goats. Four WAD goats aged 9 – 12 months were randomized into four treatments in a 4x4 Latin Square design experiment. The treatments were 0%, 7.5%, 10% and 12.5%Toasted Jackfruit Seed Meal (TJFSM) respectively. Results obtained showed that for nutrient digestibility, T2 (7.5% TJFSM) recorded the highest N-absorbed (4.03g/d), N-balance (3.473g/day) and apparent N-digestibility (55.55%) respectively. However, dry matter intake values were 327.7, 377.7, 557.7 and 566.3g/day for treatment 1, 2, 3 and 4 respectively. It can be concluded that farmers should include 7.5% TJFSM in the diet of WAD goats for better nutrient utilization.
