EFFECT OF AQUEOUS Phyllanthusamarus LEAF EXTRACT ON FEED UTILIZATION AND SERUM LIPID PROFILE OF BROILER CHICKENS

ThisstudyinvestigatedtheeffectofvaryinglevelsofPhyllanthusamarusleafextract(PALE)in1Lofdrinkingwateronfeedutilisationandserumlipidprofileofbroilerchickensfor42days.120dayoldchickswererandomlyallocatedtofourtreatmentswiththreereplicatesoftenbirdseach,inacompletelyrandomiseddesign(CRD).PALEwasobtainedbyaddinggroundPhyllanthusamarusleavesat0g,15g,20g,and25gto1Lofboiledwaterrespectively,andsteepedforthirtyminutes.ThetreatmentsweredesignatedasT1(0ml/L),T2(15ml/L),T3(20ml/L),T4(25ml/L).ResultsshowedthatPALEhadnoeffect(P<0.05)onfeedintake,feedconversionratioandweightgainofbroilerchickensassthetreatments,buttherewereeffectsonthelipidprofileindicesatthesamelevelofsignificance.BirdsonPALEhadlowercholesterol,triglycerides,highdensitylipoproteins(HDL),andlowdensitylipoproteins(LDL)thanthecontrol.Itwasconcludedthattheextracthadhypolipidermiceffectonthebroilers.
