Abstract

Sokoto Gudali cattle are one among many cattle’s found in Nigeria and it neighboring country. To date there is no standard reference values for haematological parameters. Hence, this study was aimed at establishing the normal reference hematological parameters of Sokoto Gudali cattle. Blood samples were collected from 125 apparently healthy Sokoto Gudali male cattle during ante mortem inspection and analyzed in Physiology and Biochemistry lab UDUS.The results obtained shows that the mean PCV (%), Hb (g/dl), RBC (x106/mm6), WBC (x103/mm3), Neutrophils (%), Lymphocytes (%), Monocytes (%), Eosinophils (%), Basophils (%), MCV (fl), MCH (pg), MCHC (g/dl) were 28.06±6.25, 11.14±1.98, 9.85±2.99, 6.09±2.50, 50±13.20,45±13.39, 3±1.37, 1.02±0.99, 0.57±0.69, 28.49±1.80, 11.31±2.5, 39.70±2.3 respectively. From this study it can be concluded that it was observed that the haematological parameters obtained from this study were within the normal range with little variation in neutrophils count.
