SOCIO–ECONOMIC FACTORS AFFECTING MARKETING OF POULTRY FEEDS IN ETSAKO EAST LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF EDO STATE, NIGERIA

The study assessed the effects of socio-economic variables on the marketing of poultry feeds in Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State. The study described the socio-economic characteristics of poultry feed marketers, determined their profit and the factors affecting the revenue of the marketers. Data were collected with the aid of a well-structured questionnaire. Purposive sampling technique was used to select ten communities and six poultry feed marketers were purposively selected from each of the communities making a sample size of sixty. The data collected were analysed using descriptive statistics
and regression analyses. The study showed that 85% of the respondents were male, 75% were below the age of 60years. Furthermore 88% were married. The average profit made by the poultry feed marketers was ₦938,300. Regression results showed that quantity of feed bought (X6) and cost of purchase (X7) were significant at 5% level. The major problems faced by the poultry feed marketers was high marketing cost. Therefore, it was recommended that governments should improve on the condition of road network to reduce the cost of transportation.
